How To Train Your Cat To Sit In Your Lap

Cats are very fascinating creatures. If you own a cat then you know they are independent, loyal, aggressive and loving pets.  Training a Cat is not only easy but fun as well.Since cats are not like dogs training them is vastly different in some ways.  A cat’s adaptation to learning specific commands is usually quick but requires patience in the process.Remember cats are innately independent and they exhibit behaviors that are unlike any other cat.  In other words if a cat doesn’t want to do something them they wont and that’s why you need lots of patients and activities that hold their interest.

If you want to train your cat to sit in your lap then you have to cater to your cat’s natural instincts and what they like.Cats are naturally affectionate pets and once their comfortable in home you can begin to easily train them to do some amazing things.  As with any pet the best time to teach them to sit in your lap is when their young, however cats can be trained at any stage as long as you follow the right techniques. While each technique is effective some are more effective depending on the cats’ age, temperament and aggression.

Kittens
Training a kitten takes the most patience and requires creativity.Kittens are very active and keeping them in one place for a long period of time requires that you maintain their attention and make it pleasurable.Start by holding them in your lap and playing with them.Use toys and sometime treats are a good distraction.Make the experience of being in your lap difference from any other play time so that they understand they only get that special treatment when they sit in your lap.

Adolescent Cat
These are young cats between adult and kitten, so their very adventurous and most aggressive. You need to really get their attention when sitting in your lap.You don’t want to force your adolescent cat to sit if he/she doesn’t want to.Remember you want the cat to see that sitting in your lap is a happy experience and not something they have to do.Mixing up activities like playing and a occasional scratch between the ears and even down their back is very pleasurable for adolescent cats.  Remember when your cat wants to get down let them.

Adult Cat
Depending on how old your cat is and their previous environment you must take care not to show too much aggression when trying to teach your cat to sit in your lap.So you want to try a combination of all the possible techniques until you find the one that works.Usually petting and scratching seems to be most effective with adult cats.
Remember cats are naturally aggressive and independent you don’t want to show too much aggression with training your cat since this can possible deter them from learning.Always consult a professional or consulting literature on training your cat if you’re uncomfortable with training your cat to sit in your lap.
